Leaf Rubbings — Discovering God's Designs in Nature

Memory Verse "The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever." — Isaiah 40:8 (NIV)

Learning Objective

Students will create leaf rubbings to discover the unique patterns God designed in leaves.

Lesson Content

Have you ever looked closely at a leaf? God put tiny lines called veins inside each leaf. The veins carry water to every part of the leaf, just like roads carry cars to different places!

Every leaf is shaped differently. Some are long and thin, some are round, and some have pointy edges. God designed each kind of leaf with a special pattern.

We can see these amazing patterns by doing leaf rubbings! When we place paper over a leaf and rub a crayon across it, the leaf's shape and veins appear like magic. It is really God's wonderful design showing through!

Leaves help trees breathe and make food from sunshine. God thought of everything when He made plants!

Hands-On Activity

Collect different leaves from outside. Place a leaf under a piece of white paper. Hold the paper still and rub the side of a crayon over the leaf. Watch the leaf's pattern appear! Try different colors and different leaves. Make a whole page of leaf rubbings.
