1st Grade Art & Science Projects — Creation Station — Hands-On Art and Science
Students will create sun prints using construction paper and objects from nature to explore how God's light changes things around us.
On Day 1 of Creation, God said, 'Let there be light!' and light appeared. Light is one of the very first things God created, and it is very important for life on Earth.
Sunlight is powerful! It helps plants grow, keeps us warm, and even changes colors. When construction paper sits in the sun, the light makes the color fade. If you put objects on top of the paper, those spots stay dark because the sunlight cannot reach them.
Today we will use the sun to make beautiful art! God gave us sunlight as a gift, and we can use it to create something wonderful. This project helps us see how powerful God's creation really is.
Place a sheet of dark construction paper in direct sunlight. Arrange leaves, shapes, and small objects on top of the paper. Leave it in the sun for 2-3 hours. Remove the objects to reveal your sun print art! Glue your favorite leaf or shape next to your print.
