Paper Mache Earth — Crafting God's Beautiful Planet

Memory Verse "He who created the heavens, He is God; He who fashioned and made the earth, He founded it." — Isaiah 45:18 (NIV)

Learning Objective

Students will build a model of the Earth using paper mache to learn about how God designed our planet with land and water.

Lesson Content

God created the Earth to be our home. He separated the land from the water and made our planet just right for life. If you look at a picture of Earth from space, you can see beautiful blue oceans and green and brown land.

About 70 percent of Earth's surface is covered with water! God filled the oceans, rivers, and lakes with water that plants, animals, and people need to live. The land has mountains, valleys, plains, and forests — all designed by God.

Today we will make our own model of the Earth using paper mache. We will paint it with blue for the oceans and green and brown for the land. This will help us see how wonderfully God designed our planet!

Hands-On Activity

Blow up a balloon and cover it with strips of newspaper dipped in a flour-and-water paste. Let it dry overnight. Pop the balloon and paint your globe blue for oceans and green and brown for land. Label one ocean and one continent.
