Mammals — Warm-Blooded Wonders

Memory Verse "And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds." — Genesis 1:25 (ESV)

Learning Objective

Students will learn what makes mammals special and how their amazing features show God's intelligent design.

Lesson Content

On Day 6 of Creation, God made the land animals, including mammals. Mammals are warm-blooded animals that have fur or hair and feed their babies milk. God designed each mammal kind with exactly what it needs to live.

Think about how different mammals are! Dogs have an amazing sense of smell that is 10,000 times better than ours. Bats can fly in the dark using special sound waves called echolocation. Dolphins are designed to swim fast and leap through the water. Each of these amazing abilities was given to them by God, their Creator.

God created mammals 'according to their kinds.' This means He made each kind of mammal special and unique from the very beginning. Dogs have always been dogs, cats have always been cats, and horses have always been horses. God's design is perfect!

Hands-On Activity

Draw your favorite mammal and label three special features God gave it (such as fur, claws, or special teeth). Write one sentence about why you think God designed that feature.

Discussion Questions

  • What are some mammals you can think of? What makes them special?
  • How does a mammal's fur or hair help it survive?
  • Why do you think God made so many different kinds of mammals?
