Paul Revere's Ride — A Brave Patriot

Memory Verse "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." — Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

Learning Objective

Students will learn about Paul Revere and how brave patriots helped protect American freedom.

Lesson Content

As the American colonies grew, the king of England made unfair rules and charged the colonists too much money in taxes. The colonists thought this was wrong because they had no say in the laws.

Many brave men and women stood up for freedom. One of them was Paul Revere, a silversmith from Boston. On the night of April 18, 1775, Paul Revere rode his horse through the countryside shouting, 'The British are coming!'

Paul Revere's midnight ride warned the colonists that British soldiers were marching toward them. Because of his bravery, the colonial soldiers called Minutemen were ready to defend their towns.

Paul Revere was courageous, just like the heroes in the Bible. He risked his life to help others. The patriots believed that God had given them the right to be free, and they were willing to be brave to protect that freedom.

Hands-On Activity

Act out Paul Revere's midnight ride! Pretend to ride a horse around the room and call out a warning. Then draw a picture of Paul Revere on his horse at night.
