Rock Painting — God Our Rock and Foundation

Memory Verse "The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge." — Psalm 18:2 (NIV)

Learning Objective

Students will paint rocks with encouraging Bible messages and learn about different types of rocks God created.

Lesson Content

God created rocks and minerals when He formed the Earth. Rocks come in many shapes, sizes, and colors. Some rocks are smooth from being in water, some are rough and bumpy, and some have sparkly crystals inside. God designed every kind of rock!

There are three main types of rocks. Igneous rocks form when hot lava cools down. Sedimentary rocks are made from layers of sand and mud pressed together over time. Metamorphic rocks are rocks that have been changed by heat and pressure. God created all three kinds!

The Bible often calls God our 'Rock.' This means God is strong, solid, and dependable — just like a big, sturdy rock that never moves. Today we will paint rocks with Bible verses and encouraging messages. You can give your painted rocks to others to remind them that God is their Rock!

Hands-On Activity

Collect smooth rocks from outside. Wash and dry them. Paint each rock with acrylic paint or paint pens. Write a short Bible verse or encouraging word on each rock (like 'God is love,' 'Be kind,' or 'Trust God'). Let them dry completely. Place your rocks around the school or neighborhood for others to find!
