Simple Circuits — God's Gift of Energy

Memory Verse "And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light." — Genesis 1:3 (NIV)

Learning Objective

Students will build a simple electrical circuit and learn how electricity flows through a complete path, reflecting on God as the source of all energy.

Lesson Content

Electricity is a form of energy that God built into His creation. It flows through materials called conductors, like copper wire, and can power lights, motors, and many other devices we use every day.

A circuit is a complete path that electricity follows. Every circuit needs three things: a power source like a battery, a path for the electricity to travel through like a wire, and a device that uses the electricity like a light bulb.

If the path is broken or incomplete, electricity cannot flow and the light will not turn on. This is called an open circuit. When everything is connected and electricity flows, it is called a closed circuit.

God designed the laws of physics that make electricity work. Just as electricity needs a complete path to flow, we need to stay connected to God through prayer and His Word to receive His power and light in our lives.

Hands-On Activity

Build a simple circuit using a battery, two wires, and a small light bulb. Test what happens when you disconnect one wire. Then try adding a switch made from a paper clip to open and close your circuit.

Discussion Questions

  • What happened when you broke the circuit? Why did the light go out?
  • What are some things in your home that use electricity?
  • How is staying connected to God like a closed circuit?
