Insects — Tiny but Amazing

Memory Verse "Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!" — Proverbs 6:6 (NIV)

Learning Objective

Students will learn about the fascinating world of insects and how even the smallest creatures show God's incredible design.

Lesson Content

God created insects on Day 5 (flying insects) and Day 6 (creeping insects). Insects are the largest group of animals on Earth! All insects have six legs, three body parts (head, thorax, abdomen), and most have wings. Even though they are tiny, insects show us incredible examples of God's design.

The Bible tells us to look at the ant and learn from it. Ants work together in amazing teams, building tunnels and storing food. Bees make honey and build perfectly shaped honeycomb — every cell a perfect hexagon! Butterflies start life as caterpillars and are completely transformed into beautiful flying creatures. Only a wise Creator could design something so wonderful.

Fireflies can make their own light — scientists call this bioluminescence. Ladybugs help gardens by eating pests. Dragonflies can fly forward, backward, and even hover in place. Each insect, no matter how small, is a masterpiece of God's creation. As Psalm 104:24 says, 'In wisdom you made them all!'

Hands-On Activity

Go outside and carefully observe insects in your yard or park. Draw three insects you find and count their legs to confirm they have six. Write which insect you think is the most amazing and why.
