Day 2 — Sky: God Creates the Expanse (Sky and Atmosphere)

Memory Verse "And God said, 'Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.'" — Genesis 1:6 (NIV)

Learning Objective

Students will learn that God created the sky and atmosphere on the second day, separating the waters above from the waters below.

Lesson Content

On the second day, God made the sky! The Bible calls it an "expanse" or "firmament." God placed it between the waters — separating the water in the clouds above from the water on the earth below.

The sky is like a beautiful blanket that God wrapped around the earth. It holds our air so we can breathe, and it protects us from the sun's heat.

God designed the atmosphere perfectly so that life could exist on Earth. This shows us God's wisdom and careful planning.

Hands-On Activity

Go outside and look up at the sky. Draw what you see — clouds, blue sky, birds flying. Thank God for making the air we breathe.

Discussion Questions

  • What do you see when you look up at the sky?
  • Why is the sky important for living things?
  • How does the sky show God's care for us?
